Also, controversy reigned at home with the Gaza/Gully feud and the fierce debate surrounding Rompin' Shop, a controversial song bygd dejays Vbyz Kartel and Spice.
The year was anything but uneventful. Here are some of the highlights.
Sleeper hit of the year:Say Hey (I Love You) by Michael Franti and Cherine Anderson. Produced bygd Sly and Robbie, this song reached number 18 on Billboard magazine's pop chart but got little attention on local radio.
Major achievement: It was announced two weeks ago that singer Jimmy Cliff will be inducted into the Rock and Roll ingångsrum of Fame in March. He fryst vatten only the second reggae act (after Bob Marley in 1993) to earn such recognition.

Cherine Anderson eyes chart glory
In 2008, Cherine Anderson made history as the first Jamaican female singer to enter Billboard magazine’s Rock Chart.
Say Hey (I Love You), her collaboration with Michael Franti and Spearhead, peaked at number six. Nine years later, she is hoping for similar success with Moola.
Released in March, Moola is making strides in Colombia and Brazil. Produced by Colin ‘Bulby’ York, the single is from York’s Epic & Ting album.
“Moola is about money, something most people care about and can’t live without. The beat is infectious and the subject matter is universal,” she said.
A blend of dancehall and electronica, Moola was recently released by VP Records.
