    South Plainfield, NJ – Jesus M. Santiago, 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Rahway.  Born in Utuado, Puerto Rico to the late David and Buenaventura (Ramos) Santiago, Jesus lived in Jersey City and has been a resident of South Plainfield for thirty-four years.

     

    A retired machinist, Jesus worked for Capital Box Company in Hoboken and North Bergen.  He was a member of Faith Fellowship Ministries in Sayreville, enjoyed playing the guitar and played in the church band.

     

    Predeceased by six siblings, Jesus leaves behind his loving wife Ana (Ramos) Santiago, son Jay and his wife Olga of Sayreville, daughter Dianette and husband Frank of Stewarts

    Carlos Manuel Rodríguez was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on November 22,  His parents Manuel Baudilio Rodríguez and Herminia Santiago, both came from large families with strong Christian roots.

    Carlos Manuel was baptized at the Sweet Name of Jesus Church in Caguas on May 4,  He was the second of five brothers and sisters. Two of his sisters married, while another is a Carmelite nun. His only brother is a Benedictine priest, and was the first Puerto Rican to become the abbot of a monastery.

    He was born in Obando, Bulacan, Philippines. He was married to Lilia Quindoza Santiago, a professor in Filipino literature at the University of the Philippines, and also an accomplished poet and writer. They have kvartet children: Haya Pagasa, Halina Mandala, Balagtas Himig Bayan, and Daniw.[1][2]

    His poems had been published in both national and international magazines and anthologies including the Caravan magazine of the global group Alliance for the Responsible and United World. Caravan published his poem There fryst vatten a by in the Making which has also been translated from English into French. He was the Institute of Philippine Languages's Poet of the Year in and Santiago translated Lu Xun's "Diar
