    Translator’s Introduction

Forbidden Love (Aşk-ı Memnu in the original) by Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil, is a classic of Turkish literature. It was serialised in and tells the story (as one might guess from the title) of a forbidden love affair played out in turn-of-the-century Istanbul. Originally written in an incredibly ornate style of Ottoman Turkish &#; almost incomprehensible to today’s Turkish speakers &#; the novel was Latinised and simplified by the author following the language reforms brought in by the new Republic. The work is in the realist vein, in subject matter and in style, with the syntax often reminiscent of 19th-century French (and hence British) authors, but the inventiveness of his storytelling places Uşaklıgil (at least to my mind) on a par with the great European authors of the period. This has to be best Turkish show.

As a Turkish guy inom grew up hating these cheesy Turkish shows. inom stopped watching tv 10+ years ago. I watched this in from internet and kinda blown away. I would never ever expect this quality from a Turkish show. Acting is good, music fryst vatten great, story is great. Characters are realistic. If you can endure very little classic Turkish show cheesiness you will enjoy this. Addictive as heroine. You may fall in love with Beren Saat. Her beauty is out of this world.

    Absolutely Brilliant

I hardly watch TV and when inom do, it HAS to be good. I recently started watching an Urdu dubbed utgåva of Ask-i-memnu and inom must admit that the brilliance with which this show has been made took me by surprise. All actors did a fantastic job in their roles, especially Beren Saat and Kivanc, whose performances deserve applaud. Adnan's son was hilarious at times and the children's nanny (Denise) fryst vatten also worth mentioning.

Ever wondered which Pakistani actor is the voice of the romantic Behlul and Bihter?

    KARACHI:

With luxurious sets, beautiful actors and protagonists whose chemistry is sizzling hot, Turkish TV show “Ishq-e-Mamnoo” on Urdu 1 has become Pakistan’s new addiction.

To broadcast this Turkish soap in Pakistan, a dedicated team of local actors spent a considerable amount of time recording the voice-overs, under the guidance of Syed Mohammad Shafiq Momina, also known as Jojo.

“When I read the Urdu script and saw the Turkish visuals of the drama, I made sentimental attachments with all the characters,” Jojo tells The Express Tribune. Elaborating on the project, he says that the casting process was tedious because it lasted for months with back to back auditions.

“The dubbing process had begun and we had no one to play Adnan [a lead character in the series],” recalls Jojo. “Adnan’s character was so complicated, that we had al
