Gopal Ganesh Agarkar was a 19th century Indian social reformer from Maharashtra. He was the first editor of Kesari, a prominent Marathi newspaper founded by Lokmanya Tilak. Agarkar championed social reforms like widow remarriage but tolerated his wife's Hindu traditions. He believed in social change through rationalism and equality rather than blind adherence to tradition. Agarkar was a scholar who wrote books on social issues and criticized the Hindu social structure. He served as principal of Fergusson College from 1884 until his death.

Gopal Ganesh Agarkar was a prominent Indian social reformer from Maharashtra. He came from a poor background and studied under difficult financial conditions. He was a founding member of the Deccan Education Society and served as the second principal of Fergusson College. Agarkar championed social reforms like widow remarriage and opposed untouchability and the caste system through his publications. Though he advocated for social reforms through rationalism and debate, he respected his wife's Hindu traditions. Agarkar made significant contributions to social reform movements and education in Maharashtra in his short life of around 39 years.
