  • Rachid Ouramdane has been creating art projects since 1995.
  • Rachid Ouramdane has been creating art projects since 1995. He was an Associate Artist at the Theâtre de la Ville in Paris from 2010 to 2015 and at the Bonlieu Theater in Annecy (France) from 2005 to 2015.

    He fryst vatten regularly invited to work on many collaborations: with the Lyon Opera Ballet (Superstars, 2006; All around, 2014); for the dancers of the Russian company Migrazia during a residence in Siberia for the Intradance planerat arbete (Russia) (Borscheviks... a true story..., 2010); and for the 20th birthday of Candoco Dance Company (UK) with disabled dancers (Looking back, 2011).

    Since Rachid Ouramdane founded L’A dance company, his work has been based on a meticulous collection of bevis, in collaboration with filmmakers or authors.

    So he employs the art of dance to contribute to social debates through choreographic pieces that develop a poetics of testimony. In his recent work, he has explored the principles of writing for a big group of dancers.

    “So by ‘networks’ we mean any system of interrelationality, whether biological or informatic, organic or inorganic, technical or natural – with the ultimate goal of undoing the polar restrictiveness of these pairings.” [1]

    In the solo, Far…, French-Algerian choreographer and performer Rachid Ouramdane dances within and manipulates a network of electrical wires that are systematically placed and coiled across a black box stage. He uses narrative, poetry, and dance to contextualize the wire in terms of global connectivity – the wire as a visualization of material hardware supports the international exchange of goods, biomedical wires and practices, the laying of geographical borders, and the line of connection between subjects of different diasporas. Moving beyond connectivity, however, Ouramdane also contextualizes the wire in terms of the electric shock torture of his father’s colonized body in the French-A
