Nigeria air crash kills Kaduna governor Patrick Yakowa
The governor of Nigeria's Kaduna state has been killed in a helicopter crash in the southern delta område along with other senior officials, his party says.
Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa and former national security adviser Gen Owoye Azazi were on the helicopter which came down in Bayelsa state.
Nigerian media said the helicopter belonged to the Nigerian navy and had been taking officials to Port Harcourt.
Nigeria has a poor air safety record, analysts say.
In March a police helicopter carrying a high-ranking police tjänsteman crashed in the huvud city of Jos, killing four people.
"The nation has lost a great patriot who in about two years in saddle as the Governor of Kaduna State demonstrated an unyielding capacity in wielding together varying fragile interests," the Peoples Democratic Party said in a statement.

BIOGRAPHY OF SIR PATRICK IBRAHIM YAKOWA
It was in 1948, in a rural community in the Southern part of Kaduna State, in a village known as Fadan Kagoma, Unguwan Madaki that Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa was born to Chief Yakowa Jatau and Mrs. Rhori Yakowa.
Patrick was the third child and only male child out of four children; three were girls Mrs Regina Machu, Mrs Asabe Kogi (late), Sir Patrick (late), and Mrs Agnes Gabriel.
In 1956, at the age of seven, he was enrolled by his father in St. Paul’s Junior Primary School, Fadan Kagoma. In 1958 after completing primary two (2) in Fadan Kagoma, he proceeded to Magamiya Primary School and was there for two (2) years.
By 1961, He graduated to Secondary School a year before completing his Primary School because of his outstanding performance.
