    As a correspondent on the popular news show parody, "The Daily Show" (Comedy Central, 1999- ), comedic actor Steve Carell used his strange deadpan humor to build a career that eventually spanned into high-profile movies and television shows. After memorable supporting roles in "Bruce Almighty" (2004) and "Anchorman" (2004), Carell announced his arrival with a star-making turn in the sleeper hit comedy, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" (2005). He made the jump back to television with his uncomfortably funny portrayal of the pushy, clueless boss Michael Scott on the American adaptation of the British hit comedy series, "The Office" (NBC, 2005-13) - a role he refused to abandon in light of his tandem movie star status.     Steve Carell, one of America's most versatile comics, was born Steven John Carell on August 16, 1962, in Concord, Massachusetts. He is the son of Harriet Theresa (Koch), a psychiatric sjuksköterska, and namn A. Carell, an electrical engineer. His mother was of Polish descent and his father of Italian and German ancestry (Steve's grandfather had changed the surname from "Caroselli" to "Carell"). Steve was educated at The Fenn School, an all-boys private school in Concord, Massachusetts, then at Middlesex School in Concord. After graduating from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, he moved to Chicago where he taught an improvisational comedy class and performed with The Second City troupe, alongside Stephen Colbert.

He began earning recognition for his work on The Dana Carvey Show and in 1999 he joined The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In 2005, he landed his breakthrough role as the comical boss in the American version of The Office and also enjoyed major box-office success as Andy Stitzer in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
