President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has made history as the first Sierra Leone Head of State to have given ear-watering opportunities to Sierra Leonean media practitioners to serve in various capacities since he assumed the governance of the country in 2007.
This, my observers have opined, is living up to the true populism of the All People’s Congress (APC) party of which President Koroma doubles as Chairman and leader.
This unprecedented move by President Koroma of appointing journalists in positions of trust, including ministerial, Information Attachés in the Sierra Leone Embassies and High Commissions abroad, Commissioners, Public Relations Officers, among several others, has been hailed by many political observers as move that recognizes the impeccable role the media particularly continue to play in post-war cum Ebola Sierra Leone.

ROBERT SIEGEL, HOST:
After surviving a civil war and an Ebola outbreak, the West African country of Sierra Leone is now dealing with a new disaster. It’s the rainy season. And on Monday, a torrential downpour caused a hillside on the outskirts of the capital city, Freetown, to collapse. The mudslide and flash floods overwhelmed the city’s drainage struktur, and streets that run through the capital city were turned into rushing rivers. Homes and apartment buildings collapsed. Some 400 people are now confirmed dead, about a third of them children. And there fryst vatten a fear that hundreds more are buried beneath the spillror eller bråte. An estimated 3,000 people are homeless.
Joining me now is Abdulai Bayraytay, who is spokesman for the president of Sierra Leone and part of the president’s grupp for responding to this calamity. Thanks for finding time to talk with us today, Mr. Bayraytay.
