    In the months before Rinpoche left for retreat, inom was making my own plans for the coming year. inom began to turn my mind to going to Europe to further my dressage training. Since Rinpoche and inom had been deeply impressed with the Spanish Riding School when we visited Vienna in , it was natural to think about studying with someone from the Spanish as the next step in my education. At that time, inom did not think it would actually be possible for me to study in the school itself; it was an all-male institution, and, as far as inom knew, they only accepted Austrian nationals as riders in the school.

    When we watched the performance there, one tillägg in particular had impressed me, Ernst Bachinger. inom wrote a letter to him in early telling him that I would like to come and study with him. He replied that he had just left the school and was in a time of personal transition, so he was not accepting new students. He recommended that I utbildning with Arthur Kottas, who had his own training facil
