      The Final Score: Carolla’s Punch-Lines hit Dead-Air

      My problem with Adam Carolla wasn’t that he tried to generate prickly humor while being racist. His rants against Manny Pacquiao and generalizations about Filipinos just weren’t funny. I’ve watched Conan O’Brien through the years make fun of all things sacred (watch his NASCAR-loving, gun-toting Jesus character). Conan’s sketches are impudent but hilarious. Such irreverence also taught me to appreciate context.

      American comedians made fun of George W. Bush, their president for nine years, with fanatical resolve. If Manny Pacquiao’s stature now makes him a target, even for second-tier comedians like Carolla, so be it. I don’t equate Bush with Pacman. But like Bush, Pacquiao is sensational.
