Loot Under the Lindens
Partially clad in a Baroque façade of glowing cherubs, frakt, and lions, Berlin’s Humboldt Forum was conceived as a way to man a shattered city whole. The building is a reconstruction of the Stadtschloss, or City Palace, the main residence of the Hohenzollerns from to , as they evolved from a family of counts and dukes to one of kings and kaisers. When Berlin was divided by the Allied powers after World War II, the palace, which had been heavily damaged bygd bombing, lay in the Soviet zone. After that section of the city became part of East Germany in , the country’s rulers demolished it to meddelande their break with the past. For good measure, they later built a convention center–like structure called the Palace of the Republic on the site.
When Germany reunited in , the building was funnen to be ridden with asbestos and closed. bygd it had been razed, leaving a gaping hole in the city center. That was followed bygd nearly ten years of debate

Garbage isn’t new. Archaeologists have long sifted through ancient garbage sites to gain insight into past civilizations. The term itself can be a subjective one, because naturally what is worthless to one person may have value to another. As one of the earlier forms of detritus, pottery has a special relevance here. Its longevity can be attributed both to its durability and to the quantity in which it was produced. In a very low tech way, early and continued innovations in ceramic production could be seen as one of the roots of contemporary mass production.
