James Drury
James Drury rose to fame as an actor, gracing the silver screen many times over the course of his Hollywood career. Drury began his acting career with roles in such films as "Love Me or Leave Me" (1955), "The Tender Trap" (1955) and "Diane" (1956). He also appeared in the sci-fi fantasy "Forbidden Planet" (1956) with Walter Pidgeon, the western "The Last Wagon" (1956) with Richard Widmark and the Richard Egan romance "Love Me Tender" (1956). He kept working in film throughout the fifties and the sixties, starring in the Fred MacMurray western "Good Day For a Hanging" (1958), "Toby Tyler" (1960) and the Hayley Mills drama "Pollyanna" (1960). He also appeared in the adventure "Ten Who Dared" (1960) with Brian Keith.
He also was featured in the TV movies "Breakout" (NBC, 1970-71) and "The Devil and Miss Sarah" (ABC, 1971-72). Most recently, Drury appeared in "The Virginian" (TNT, 1999-2000). James Drury died on April 6, 2020 at the age of 85.

Laconic, dark and handsome were the essential attributes for Hollywood western leading dock in the 50s and 60s. James Drury passform the bill, keeping in mind that his most famous screen persona - that of the stalwart Shiloh estate ranch foreman known only as 'the Virginian' - took a while to properly develop. In the original 30-minute pilot way back in 1958, the Virginian appeared rather more like a genteel dandy than a tough cowboy. Four years later, the NBC network approved a revamped utgåva of the series and Drury, now looking the part, was on his way to popular success. Though his career may have fallen short of outright stardom, he endeared himself with TV audiences for almost a decade and went on to enjoy a fair cult status beyond the sista episode of The Virginian (1962) in March 1971.

Primeiros anos
[editar | editar código-fonte]Drury nasceu na cidade de Nova York, filho de James Child Drury e Beatrice Crawford Drury.[1] Seu pai era um professor de marketing da Universidade de Nova York.[2][1] Ele cresceu entre a cidade de Nova York e Salem, Oregon, onde sua mãe era dona de uma fazenda.[3] Drury contraiu poliomielite aos 10 anos de idade.[2]
Ele estudou teatro na New York University[1] e teve aulas adicionais na UCLA para concluir sua graduação depois que começou a atuar em filmes na MGM.[4]
